English Learning Games

By Think Fun
Educational reading games and English learning games that can help you promote reading at home, and have fun, while helping your child with probably one of the most important life skill that your child will need.

Reading to your child is the first step in helping your child to read. When you read to your child, ask questions about the story, the pictures, and the characters.

As their reading skills grow, encourage your child to join in and help you by reading some of the easy words, so that you are reading together, keep this going and eventually they will be reading to you.

However if your child starts to not like reading, then it can be difficult to encourage them to read a book. This is why I love educational reading games.

There is a wide variety of English learning games to choose from..

Easy games like Word Bingo is a good place to start, where your child can just match up cards and as they grow in confidence, they will start to shout out the words on the tile’s that they are trying to match.

As they progress, games where they have to read questions out loud for another team, are great fun.

What’s great about educational reading games, is that your child won’t even know that they are developing their reading skills.

Educational Insights Tri - Words

Can you think fast under pressure? With Tri-Words, everyone will have fun scrambling to sort out their 3-sided letter tiles into color-coded words. This fast-paced game packs a world of colorful, word-powered fun inside its compact tin case.

"This came quickly and was better than advertised. I ordered this for my class of first graders. It is perfect for them during the beginning of the first semester. With adjustments, they can still use it and learn after they are reading independently. I like that children can play with tri words alone and in a small group. I would recommend it for any 4-8 year old, or anyone who is struggling with beginning reading skills."

STARE! JUNIOR Game - 2nd Edition

"I have the adult version of this game and so I already knew it was a fun game to play. The kids version appears to be just as popular (if you judge by the reaction of my three). The great thing about this game is that both young and older kids can play together (just give the younger kids a longer time to stare at the image card).

The object of this educational reading games is to stare at the image and recall as much as possible before time runs out. Correctly answered questions about the image are rewarded by advancing on the gameboard. The images are great fun to look at - comic book covers, teddy bear scenes, cartoons and much more. Not only fun to play, the game tests visual recall and reading skills to boot. Best of all, it managed to keep a rather large gathering of neighborhood kids completely entertained - a great feat! I would definitly make sure this game is a permanent part of your game closet."

A winner of the National Parenting Center Seal and the Teacher's Choice Award for the Family.
