Games for learning English, will help you child improve their vocabulary, spelling and enjoyment of learning.

Your child needs to be equipped with the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing English in a clear, well presented manner.

So helping your child enjoy this subject is very important.

By having games for learning English in your home you will help develop your child’s English language knowledge in a fun and relaxed way.

Success in English is important across the curriculum, because every learning area will be taught in English for most children.

At school they learn to listen to and discuss others’ ideas and present their own.

Your child now reads for enjoyment and to find out facts. They now give their thoughts on what they read, and put their thoughts into writing much more easily.

Reading Skills

Reading a broad range of materials will help your child’s expanding vocabulary, gain knowledge and understanding of words, sentences and text structure.

Your child will now start reading challenging lengthy texts on their own, and they can discuss the meanings of fiction and non-fiction with you and others.

Speaking And Listening Skills

They learn about how language changes in different situations, such as between speech and writing.

Your child begins to shape what they say with a clear beginning and ending, they use language for effect when speaking to an audience.

Your child should be able to work flexibly in a group, making contribution to the discussion, being able to comment on how successful their performance was and on ways to improve their work.

Writing Skills

Your child should be able to write legibly and fluently in joint-up and printed styles. They are able to plan and draft their work, checking it for spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes.

Your child, should be able to write in a range of ways to explore feelings, explaining answers, comments and reviewing others work.



Things to do...

Make library visits a regular thing, encourage your child to choose their own books.

If you go on trips, encourage them to keep a diary, save tickets and broachers to stick them in the diary.

Let your child write the postcards to friends and family, when you go on holidays.

Ask them to write letters to grandparents or family members that live away.

Use different experiences to talk about facts and opinions, show them you value their opinions.
