Children need to understand how money grows and that investing is a way to make money with money.

First, you have to earn money. As a kid, you get money from allowance, gifts, service or from selling goods such as lemonade.

By kids investing, you start them on a habit, which could guarantee their future.

Encourage them to save half the money they get, and leave the money in a high interest account, the bank will give a small amount of money back, for leaving money in their account.

If you keep on leaving the money in the bank they will add more and more money. This is called Compounding.

There are two main reasons why you should invest;

To Stay Ahead of Inflation

Inflation causes the increase of prices. When a Big Mac goes up from $1.10 to $1.40 or when gas goes up from $1.20 to $1.60 a gallon, we say that is inflation. You need to make more money just to keep up with the rising cost of living.

To Achieve Financial Goals

Financial goals can be separated into two types

Short term goals – Things that you need or want now or within the next 6 months, such as a bike or a video game.

Usually, it takes less money to reach these short – term goals

Long term goals – Things that you need or want in a few years or more, for example, going to college, buying a car, and even starting a business.

Usually, these goals are expensive and require some planning.

The earlier you start investing, the sooner you can reach your financial goals.
