It’s no wonder that so many young people wind up with huge debts, and when the cards, the over draughts and the loans dry up, well we’ve all seen what happens then “Crunch!”
But, when do you start? How old or how young should your child be to learn about money? Can you imagine the head start your preschooler would have if you place the same value on money and kids exercises, as you did on learning numbers, shapes and the ABC? Indeed, as children grow, exchanging a financial reward for behaviour, completing homework or helping around the house, gives your child a degree of financial independence to develop good money management skills. And, as your child reaches their teens encourage them to take a paper round or wash a few neighbours cars. But don’t stop there! Extend these lessons of reward into teaching your child about the benefits of saving, or even investing!
