Great Outdoor Toys For Toddlers

Outdoor toys for toddlers are important, but also keeping toddlers safe and healthy outside is paramount, that is, keeping them safe, without restricting their natural impulse for exploration and investigation.

So what does the outdoor environment offer your toddler, and what can they do outdoors?

Being outdoors has a positive impact on your child’s well-being and development. It offers them unique experiences and play opportunities that are different to those they have indoors.

When toddlers are outdoors they can enjoy the fresh air, and they are able to have direct contact with the natural world, the weather and seasons.

Your toddler will be able to use whole-body multi-sensory experiences that offer them a new and exciting view on their world as they crawl, roll, slide, smell and feel their environment.

By having the space outside your toddler will have a sense of freedom and variety of spontaneous opportunities for investigation or exploration.

Outdoors is a place filled with rich stimulus and source of learning for toddlers.

The sights, smells, and sounds of outdoor will interest and intrigue them, and they will want to find out more of the world around them.

As they become more mobile, your toddler will want to explore everything they see out-doors. They will express their interest through their emerging language skills and will rapidly absorb new words relating to outdoor experiences. Whether crawling or toddling, children this age like to be on the move.

Keep your toddler company, at their pace, as they explore as they will want to share their interests and discoveries with you. This is also a great way to talk about what they are seeing and doing.

There are so many activities and outdoor toys for toddlers that can help your toddler’s curiosity and creativity grow, and I have included some suggestions for outdoor educational toddler toys, which can be great resources.

You could add bubbles to the water in a paddling pool, it’s great fun, and gives your toddler a rang of new experiences.

Take the opportunity to talk to your toddler, using new words to describe how the bubbles feel.

Using outdoor toys for toddlers like wheelbarrows, trikes and push-alongs, will provide enthusiastic ‘transporters’, as your toddler endlessly carries objects from one place to another, and using their own transport will delight them.

Provide large boxes and blankets for making into camps and dens or even better, have your very own teepee, or an igloo in the garden!

Set up a low-level obstacle course to provide new and varied physical challenges, this is a great activity, which can be made easier or harder as they develop their physical skills.

Also trowels for scooping up materials, as well as child-sized brooms for sweeping up afterwards.

Resource your outdoor area with plentiful supplies of movable materials, leaves, conkers, pebbles, sand, water and wooden bricks. Your child will love the different textures on their skin, and the noises that these materials make.

Outdoor toys for toddlers can help encourage, your little one to learn more from their natural environment, and also help burn off, that boundless energy that they have.
