Preschool language development can be split into reading and writing, as well as your preschooler’s vocabulary.
It is very important that you talk to your child and not use ‘baby words’ for things, such as ‘doggy’ for dog or ‘baba’ for baby. Learning a language can get tricky when you start making up your own words for things.
To lay a good foundation for preschool language, reading and writing, you need to talk and listen to your child. As I mentioned in the toddler section, when you are talking to your child or reading them a story, your child is taking in so much information.
The movement of your lips, the sound that comes out of your mouth, the volume, the pitch and the rhythm of the words you say. They are learning preschool language from you everyday.
Take time to read to your child and have a good variety of books that have a vast and varied vocabulary, to suite your child’s development.
Ask questions or make comments about the pictures, or things that happen in the book, and listen to your child answer.
Ask open-ended questions, to help your child express their thoughts and feeling on the subject.

"Did you ever fly a kite in bed? Did you ever walk with ten cats on your head?" Such are the profound, philosophical queries posed in this well-loved classic by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, (The Cat In The Hat)..
While many rhymes in this couplet collection resemble sphinx-worthy riddles, Seuss's intention is clear: teach children to read in a way that is both entertaining and educational.
This timeless Dr. Seuss classic was first published in 1960, and has been delighting readers ever since. Sam-I-am is as persistent as a telemarketer, changing as many variables as possible in the hopes of convincing the nameless skeptic that green eggs and ham are a delicacy to be savored.
He tries every manner of presentation with this "nouveau cuisine"--in a house, with a mouse, in a box, with a fox, with a goat, on a boat--to no avail. Then finally....

With its lovely, humorous illustrations and wonderful narrative about a hungry caterpillar growing up to be a beautiful butterfly, Eric Carle's story touches anyone who still has some growing to do.
Along with reassuring repetition--"He was still hungry ..."--the book includes some wonderful interactive moments: what youngster can resist sticking a finger through that hole in the page as his ravenous friend makes his way through various delicacies?
A collection of poems about animals and a story about a journey through the jungle to hunt for them. The search begins as a small group of ants marches off from their hill early in the morning.
A verse then introduces each creature as encountered, until the end of the day when all of the animals are ready to sleep.
The gentle rhyming and gorgeous, tissue-paper collage illustrations in this classic picture book make it a dog-eared favorite on many children's bookshelves.
On each page, we meet a new animal who nudges us onward to discover which creature will show up next: "Blue Horse, Blue Horse, What do you see? I see a green frog looking at me." This pattern is repeated over and over, until the pre-reader can chime in with the reader, easily predicting the next rhyme.
