Science Games And
Fun Science Experiments

Every child has a natural curiosity about the way the world works. Science games and fun science experiments show them how to get answers to questions such as how plants grow or why it’s dark at night.

Between age 5 to 7 your child will enjoy the science of life processes and living things.

Doing simple experiments will have then excited and eager to find out more.

Playing science games and doing some simple fun science experiments at home, will allow your child to ask questions, without the fear of feeling silly and let him be more hands on than he would be in a classroom.

At this age in school science will be split up into three small groups.

Life Process and Living Things.

Materials and Their Properties.

Physical Processes.

Life Processes and Living Things

This is a great opportunity to talk about what an animal or plant needs in order to live, and compare it with others plants or animals from other areas of the world.

Help your child to understand that every living thing eats, grows and reproduces and that different plants and animals are found in different places.

Games like Fun with Your Dog Science Kit will allow your child to appreciate that not all living things see the world in the same way.

Also A Live Ant Habitat is interesting and great fun for kids

An inexpensive fun science experiment would be to Watch Things Grow.

You could just get a packet of cress seeds or for more fun have a sunflower race.

Talk about what the plant will need to grow, and what would happen if it doesn’t get the things it needs.

You could put two in the dark one that you give water to and the other you don’t.

Do the same with two plants in the light.

Ask your child which plant he thinks will do the best and why?

Then when they start to grow explain why they grow best with both light and water.

You could use a range of different plants in this science game maybe Rocket Plants that grow from seed to bloom in less than two months or the Polka Dot Plants that develops multi-colored spots on their leaves.

The Plant Science Classroom Kit is great for larger groups of children and is supported with instructional notes and handouts.

Materials and Their Properties

This will be when children start to discover what things are made of and how things look and feel.

Science games like sorting is a good start, simply classifying things into different group properties like shiny, hard or smooth.

Simple floating and sinking fun science experiments could be done in the bath.

Just go around the house and find a good selection of items for the experiment.

Before the bath ask him to group the items into things he thinks will float and thinks he will sink, ask him why he think they will float or sink.

Now when he is in the bath put one item in at a time, see his reaction, was he right?

Did it float?

Then have a talk about why it did or did not float.

You could also describe how some materials change when, they are heated, cooled, stretched or twisted.

Physical Processes

Exploring the natural world is great fun, understanding movement, electricity and the weather gives you plenty of fun science experiments to perform.

Introducing kids to the mysteries of weather, learning about extreme weather and wind speed, temperature and rainfall can be fascinating.

You can even get some basic and inexpensive equipment like My First Weather Kit which is designed for younger children

Exploring electricity is also mind blowing for children, and simple battery circuits with bells, lights and switches are both safe and easy to make.

Compare the brightness or colour of lights, and the loudness or pitch of sounds.

But don't stop there, with Electronic Snap Circuits Jr. Science Games you can add integrated circuits, snap wires and resistors to construct a sound-activated switches, Space-War alarms or a blinking flashlights.

Don’t forget you don’t need a lab to perform these science games and fun science experiments.

For some great ideas try the Science Fair Science Or Science Fair Physics

You’ll find lots of ways you and your child can set up experiments at home.
