![]() In our nursery, one of our toddler favorites is, having the book “Where going on a bear hunt!” Read to our toddler group just before going on a nature walk. This makes the walk fun, entertaining and educational, by using new words to describe what your walking on (mud, water, leaves as sticky, cold, crunchy ...and so on) or walking through, e.g. over the bridge, under or around. Your toddler will also love exploring and collecting different treasures to bring home. Point out big leaves to him or different colored plants or flowers. Collect opposites such as a small leaf and a big leaf, or a small stick and a big stick. These can then be put up on the wall, or made into a book that you both can look over together and talk about what you saw, how you felt. Take your time and have fun. Don’t worry if you don’t live near a nature reserve or park. A simple walk around your neighbourhood will do. Your toddler won’t mind and there will still be lots for him to see. Look for bugs under rocks and study them with a safe magnifying glass if you have time. Count steps. Jump in puddles. Sing songs as you walk along, this is a great activity for toddlers, and if you can make it a group activity even better.
Master Chef When attempt a cooking activity with your toddler make sure you have all you need at hand, so that you don’t have to leave your toddler on his own for a second. If you do, you will be sure to be coming back into a mess, as those little hand won’t be able to resist the temptations in your kitchen.
![]() Cooking can be both fun and educational, and even children as young as 2 can get involved. Depending on your toddler’s age let him help, by whisking, pouring or needing the mixture together, and don’t worry too much about how the final product will look or even taste, just concentrate on the actual putting it together part. Name out each ingredient and measure out loud. Choose something that won't take too long to cook, and make sure you enjoy your creation together. Let your toddler put the ingredients into the mixing bowl, talk to your toddler about how the different ingredients feel, and how it feels after you add water or milk. Most toddlers love the stickiness of the mixture. This will be one of your toddler favorites, it was mine when I was small, and every one I talk to can remember making cakes, and puddings when they small. Make it a good one! A great web site to get some ideas from is www.Easy-Kids-Recipes.com Have Fun With Water This is a brilliant activity, and it never fails to amuse while at the same time building hand eye coordination and dexterity. You can do this at bath time, to make bath time an educational activity, or you can go outside (less mess) and fill a small tub with water, and give your toddler several containers of different sizes.
![]() Let him pour water from one container to the other, or give a variety of different objects for your toddler to work out which will float and which sink. I think that these are the top three toddler favourites, things to do. They where when I was small, and I don’t believe that time has changed to much.
